The student body has elected their Upper School Student Government Executive Board members for next year, culminating a month of poster-making, spirited campaigning, prefect debates, and an assembly of speeches Thursday morning.
According to emails sent to candidates and viewed by The Forum, the 2026-27 Executive Board is as follows:
- Senior Prefect: Alex Stamos
- Junior Prefect: Arlo Heltzer
- Communications Chair: Kayden Jeff
- Social Chair: HJ Walberg
- Co-Curricular Chair: Carla Di Silvestro
This year’s race featured a wide range of candidates across the rising junior and senior grades. All of the current freshmen, sophomores, and juniors had the opportunity to vote from 10:15 a.m. until 3:45 p.m. on Thursday.
The Co-Curricular Chair position, currently held by Carla, was the only uncontested race. As the sole candidate, she automatically got the opportunity to continue her role.
Many other positions drew multiple candidates, however, leading to a competitive election. Five students ran for Social Chair, which made it the most populated race, and three current juniors ran for Senior Prefect. Junior Prefect and Communications Chair each featured two candidates.
The candidates presented speeches to the Upper School during an assembly Thursday morning, sharing their goals and priorities before voting took place.
“I committed my speech to memory, and I was practicing over and over again in the Science Center,” Alex said. “I took some deep breaths, but once I got up on the stage, I felt like I was among people I knew, and all of my nerves went away.”
With the results now determined, the elected Executive Board will take on the responsibilities of representing student voices and organizing key aspects of the student experience at Latin in the coming school year.
“I honestly love every single person who voted for me and every single person who didn’t vote for me,” Alex said. “I’m going to work to make Latin a better place for every student next year.”
