Micah Weiss, an eighth grader from Latin School, won the middle school mile race at the prestigious Nike Indoor Nationals in New York last Friday in a record-breaking time of 4:34. Not only did Micah crush his previous personal record by 17 seconds, he also set a new national indoor record for middle school for the mile.

Micah trained this past winter with Piñón Track Club Elite. “I give a lot of credit to Coach Piñón for helping me train and work through the mental pressure of this race,” Micah said.

Earlier this school year, Micah won the IESA State Cross Country Championship and was elated to compete nationally. After disciplined training, he expressed his dedication by saying, “I have been working for this for so long.”

The intense race was exhilarating, and he remains poised and excited to continue his running career at Latin’s Upper School. Micah said, “I was thrilled to represent Illinois and Latin School of Chicago.”
