This school year, The Forum reaches its 60th year of publication, and we’re marking the occasion in style. As any good newspaper would, we want to celebrate with what we do best: journalism. So, every month, we’re re-winding the clock and giving you the highlights of six decades of our coverage. We ask only that you sit back, relax, and enjoy a good long look at Latin through the years.

In January 1968, 58 years ago, we’re not sure what current Latin students would have found more surprising—the date of Prom, or the price: “The Prom is to be held on February 17 in the Waldorf Room of the Conrad Hilton, from 8:30 – 12:00. Tickets are $4 per couple.”
In January 1973, 53 years ago, students weren’t going to the College Counseling Office for candy: “Recently the school acquired a candy machine. A very popular selection on this machine is the ‘Try for Two’ column, where the customer has a chance of getting two unknown treats for the price of one.”
In January 1975, 51 years ago, the sandwich station was far from the longest line at lunch: “Many students also feel that the sandwiches are not very filling and consequently don’t satisfy one’s appetite. Lunchroom head Ed Palm feels that there is nothing like a hot lunch to warm the winter woes.”
In January 1990, 36 years ago: “The Forum” staff was quite the cruciverbalist!

In January 1993, 33 years ago, Latin couldn’t boast even half its current number of clubs: “Overall, a grand total of thirty-two clubs are currently registered with Latin’s Student Government.”
