Girls Tennis Falls To UHigh In Extremely Windy Conditions
September 8, 2010
Christina Tadin Staff Writer After resting over the long weekend off, the Latin Girls Varsity Tennis Team went out to play UHigh at Waveland, Latin’s home courts . The match was almost called off due to the high-speed winds that made it very difficult to keep the ball in-play, but head coach Howard Carley decided he did not want to reschedule an ISL conference match. The dynamic of each point was obviously different, and each one usually lasted no longer than a two-ball rally. The big question, though, is whether or not the wind can be blamed for the girl’s defeat. As difficult as it is to admit, U-High just might be a better team than Latin. But, in all fairness to Latin’s team, they only lost by one point. Freshman Victoria Lancaster, who played her first match in the First Doubles spot, and Sophomore Cameron Arkin lost their match in a heartbreaking defeat in the 3rd set. However, Senior Pamela Babington helped alleviate their loss by winning by a landslide in her first singles match of her career, with a score of 6-1,6-1. The girls will spend the remainder of the week at Waveland’s courts getting in some much needed practice before their tournament this Saturday at St. Viator School. The girls won this tournament last year, and hopefully they can take home the W for a second year in a row.]]>
