Welcome to the Clubs(s)

By El Buchanan

Walking into clubs fair just two weeks ago, you saw many different things—from LAW playing Beyonce at their booth, to Ecco participants walking around handing out pins, to the Latones serenading the school with their rendition of “The Longest Time.” Latin is one of the most unique schools in the city for many reasons, but I think one of the biggest is the diversity of clubs at the school. I think it’s safe to say, at Latin, there is a club for everything.

At open house, comments were made about how easy it is to start clubs, and all I could think of was, “It can’t be that easy. I am sure there is a long process like there is for everything.” But two weeks into freshman year, I see my very own classmate, Rishav Dasgupta,  standing up on stage saying he had made a new club. Seeing everyone’s support and excitement for him made me love Latin even more.

Sophomore Chasey Dunn, who is a member of Latin’s Alliance for Women, said, “ My favorite part about clubs is being able to go to a place where everyone can relate to you, and share similar stories.”

There are clubs for everything and everyone at Latin. This year we have over 50 clubs and over 15 new clubs. Here is a list of some of the new clubs this year:

  • Astronomy Club

  • Girls, Let’s Code

  • Mental Health Awareness

  • Roman Spirit Dance Team

  • Squash (does this count as a club?)

  • Social Action Club

  • Healthy Lifting

And many more!

Clubs block gives students a chance to discover their passions and interests, so remember to get involved, and don’t be afraid to try something new!
