Boys Soccer Update
September 14, 2012
Julian Passman Staff Writer After finishing last season with a winning record, the Boys Varsity Soccer team has high expectations for this year. Although most of the players believe they have yet to play their best soccer, they have still gotten off to an impressive start. Most recently, the Romans have won three straight games including 6-1 and 5-0 victories over Chicago Hope and Chicago Land Jewish High School respectively. Junior Defensemen Henry Pollock has been impressed with the team’s play as of late, saying, “ We’ve got a lot of youth and energy, these wins have helped us build momentum going forward.” One of the most pleasant surprises about this year’s team has been the play of the freshmen. Four members from the class of 2016 made this year’s varsity team: Connor Olson, Alex Arkin, Andy Coleman, and Andrew Wiggin. They have all come in and made some big contributions. While youth is certainly beneficial, the team is also reliant upon the three senior captains Paul Favia, Ian Spear, and Teddy Cohn. When asked about the team’s outlook, Captain Ian Spear simply said, “It’s going to be a magical year.” Looking forward, the Romans play four conference opponents in the next two weeks including rival Francis Parker on Homecoming Saturday. Although there are confident about their chances, the team expects to play at a high level in what is always a competitive game.]]>
