Here Comes the Sun, Seniors!

The class of 2025 gathered at North Avenue Beach to watch the sun rise over Lake Michigan on Friday morning, powering through their early morning wake-ups in hopes of starting a new senior tradition.

Seniors trickled into the Upper School building just before 6:30 a.m., where they were greeted warmly by receptionist Sami Aday before dropping off their belongings and walking to the lakefront.

The class arrived at the lakefront just in time to catch the end of the sunrise and enjoy picturesque views of the lake. Although there were some clouds in the sky and the wind complicated some photo opportunities, Upper School math teacher Michelle Neely snapped a group photo before the class spread out along the beach and ledge. Students took their own photos, chatted with their peers, and enjoyed the skyline view. Some even took a quick swim before walking back to the Latin campus.

After returning to school, seniors snacked on donuts (courtesy of Co-Curricular Prefect and senior Juliette Katz) and spent time together in the Pit and Learning Commons to conclude their new tradition. Juliette said, “It was really special to see everyone in my grade come together, and even though it was early, it was a fun way to celebrate being seniors.”
