Donald Trump became the second U.S. President elected to serve two non-consecutive terms after Grover Cleveland as he was sworn into office on Monday at noon EST.

“The inauguration is an important day, it’s a very special tradition and system we have in America that ensures the peaceful transfer of power,” senior Ellie Anderson said. “I hope that as President Trump said in his inauguration speech, ‘the next four years will be a period of unity for our country.’”

At a bitter 27 degrees, the ceremony took place indoors, again for only the second time in history. However, the cold didn’t deter the thousands of Trump fans who showcased their support for the 47th President by packing the Capital One Arena to view the televised inauguration.

It was inside the U.S. Capitol Rotunda where President Trump directly addressed America.

“During every single day of the Trump administration, I will very simply put America first,” he said.

On just his first day in office, President Trump signed executive orders that pardoned nearly all January 6 rioters, withdrew from the World Health Organization, terminated federal diversity, equity, and inclusion programs, removed transgender protections for prisoners, mandated that the government recognize just two sexes, and more.

Much of Trump’s inauguration speech, as well as his actions on Day One, were interpreted widely as undermining his commitment to the entire nation.

"He did not address reconciliation with Americans who have opposed him, encouraging them to submit to his popular majority," The Washington Post wrote in their lead news story yesterday afternoon.
