What has been the biggest thing you’ve learned in your first year of high school?

SG
WW

The biggest thing I learned in my first year of high school is that it’s really important to lock in freshman year. One thing I learned is managing your work gets easier, but there is a lot more work.

What’s your favorite thing to do outside of school?

SG
WW

My favorite thing to do outside of school is probably running—I’m on the cross country team. Or hanging out with friends.

Why do you like to run?

SG
WW

I’m on the cross country team. A lot of my friends are on it. It’s really fun to run with friends, and it’s a good workout.

How did your friends start running together?

SG
WW

A lot of my friends are on the cross country team and we are at a similar level. So it’s fun to run with them, and they help me get faster. And our conversations are really fun.

I happen to know you’re also on the ultimate frisbee team. What made you decide to join ultimate?

SG
WW

My older brother, Eddie Wegner. I wanted to do ultimate because he did it, and I think it’s a very fun sport and the team is great.

What did he say about ultimate frisbee to you that made you decide you wanted to do it?

SG
WW

He said it was probably the best environment at Latin, and it was a lot of fun. He’s on a lot of sports, and he said it was one of his favorite sports. The reason he likes it a lot is because it’s not boring. Cross country practices can sometimes be repetitive, but I feel like ultimate frisbee—it’s a lot of fun, in practices and in games.

Did your brother give you a lot of advice before you started high school?

SG
WW

He gave me a lot of advice about the workload, comparing middle school and high school. We talked a lot about it over the summer. And also managing social life as well as managing your academics, and I felt that was really helpful.

What’s the most useful piece of advice he gave you?

SG
WW

The most useful piece of advice that he gave me is probably in freshman year, have a good friend group and join lots of sports and clubs because those people—it’ll be a better experience throughout your four years.

What’s your favorite book that you’ve ever read for class?

SG
WW

My favorite book that I’ve ever read for class was probably in sixth grade, I read “Michael Bay.” It’s an action superhero book. And I finished the series. I’d say it’s really interesting.

What’s your go-to order from the kiosk?

SG
WW

Probably a large chocolate milk.
