With new student government elections upon us, I interviewed the current senior prefect, Jake Orlin, for this week’s edition of Coffee with Chris. Fresh off winning his first game at the boy’s water polo sectionals, Jake was eager and ready to answer some of my questions.
As his time serving as our junior and senior prefect comes to close, we took a look back on all that he has accomplished. The biggest success so far has been the new student government constitution, which was implemented in his junior year. Jake has also been successful in the creation of Roman Radio. Though Jake wishes he could stick around to see it happen, Roman Radio will not make its debut till next year. The idea behind Roman Radio came up as a way for students to express themselves through a new medium. It will also save precious gathering time with its constant update on sports teams.
Though it is hard to believe Jake Orlin will be graduating this year, all good things must come to an end. Save your tears, ladies! Jake has been at Latin for 14 years, and, to him, it’s weird and sad to know he will be leaving; however, Jake is excited to be be attending Wesleyan University in the fall. With only about 12 school days left, the seniors have been lacking on the traditional senior prank. When I asked Jake about it, he stated, “I cannot disclose that information,” so I guess the rest of the student body will have to wait and see what happens
Jake also happens to be one of the creators of The Rhythm Review, a music blog he created with the help of Victoria Lancaster and Mr. Tempone. Today, they have achieved over 146,000 page views and have over 240 articles written by close to 30 staff members from all over the country. One could consider Jake a music expert. Jake told me all about his favorite new artist, Mac Demarco, commenting that his style is great and that he seems like a guy you could just be friends with. Also, according to Jake, the song of the summer will be “Latch” by Disclosure.
If you had wanted Jake to be your camp counselor this summer, you’d only have to attend Kawaga, a sleepaway camp in Wisconsin, to have that dream come true. But if you already have plans this summer, go give Jake a high five and tell him how great of a person he is.
