Charlotte Collins and Erika Marcinek (AKA Cherika)
Did someone say glamour?
That’s right, we’re here. And word on the street (not The Street, although we’re sure they have this covered) is that prom is coming up. For those of you who don’t know what to expect – either due to the fact that you did not attend last year or that you blacked out the night’s events due to sheer terror – we’re here to help you.
Well first, they start with the thumbtacks. We’re kidding, of course! But yes, we went to prom last year and yes, heads were turning. There were stairs, an uncomfortably loud and packed dance floor (there was one person dancing the whole time – Sam Cohen, we loved the tux), we ate a lot of bite-sized brownies and avoided a lot of conversations and butterflies (this joke will only be understood if you know the location of last year’s prom). Other than these details, we don’t really remember much about prom, apart than the fact that it was a year ago and was, in fact, prom (wait…).
But the hype is up for this year. There’s a prom dress page that keeps adding to our overwhelming facebook notifications and giving us the sense of camaraderie and confidence that makes us come up to almost total strangers and say “nice dress last night” or “your body is going to look great.” Dates and ideas of romance are fluttering in the air like winged demons, and there’s talk of hair and fingernails, which are two things we don’t have.
What we are surprised by however, is the fact that people keep approaching us and asking if we’re excited for prom. Of course not! How could we be? Before we went to prom last year we had fingernails! We put on long dresses and our legs actually disappeared! Joking aside, Charlotte was genuinely afraid to wear a long dress last year due to the fear that some person/small animal could hide underneath it.
We know there is a lot of anxiety leading up to prom though. Which date will I take? Which pre-prom will I go to? Which post-prom? We have the same answer to each of these: all of them. Really, boys and girls, as withered prom veterans we feel confident in saying that it will go well and the night will be a success. You’ll dance in the moonlight (lamp light), canoodle all night long with your female best friend, and most importantly, be trapped in close vicinity to our ever-fast beating hearts. We pump blood for you, loyal followers, for you.
And just remember, fake nails are cheap so don’t let any inhibitions hold you back.
Xoxo
