Boys Soccer Wrap-Up

Henry Pollock Last Friday brought the end to a tumultuous boys soccer season with the Romans falling to the Francis Parker Colonels in the Regional Finals 2-0. The Romans worked hard the entire game and, in the words of senior Otis White,  “left everything we had on the field”. Despite their efforts, they could not break down the Colonels to continue their season. This seems to have been the story of the Romans’ season; their hard work came very close to paying off, but in the end, the team finished a bit dissatisfied. The same story is reflected in the difference between the team’s league and non-league record; Romans went 1-2-3 in the ISL while going 9-6-0 in non-conference games. The team enjoyed many successes throughout the season, including dominant victories against Morgan Park, Guerin Prep, and Christian Liberty. They were left discontented, however, with ties against league rivals U-High, North Shore Country Day, and Elgin, not to mention three close losses to Parker. Overall, boys soccer had a great season with many highlights but, like junior Tyler Hagedorn said, “it didn’t go like we wanted it to at the end”. Hopefully next year things will be different. Despite being dealt a tough blow in losing nine outstanding senior players, the team has a good core of young players who are determined to come back even stronger next year.]]>
