What happens when you mix Kindergartners with Seniors? Buzzing new friendships, school spirit, and a morning that bonded the entire Latin community. Homecoming kicked into high gear on Friday morning with buddy activities that spanned across grade levels. The juniors and seniors took a trip down memory lane back to the Lower School where they made artwork, played games, and had a blast with the younger Romans.
The junior kindergartners’ smiles and giggles spoke to the vibes of the day. Purple Bear Zoe Li said, “The buddies are a shooting star!” The fifth and 10th graders created a special secret handshake. Third and seventh graders partied in the park among seniors Eva Lapiere and Luca Presser, who added to the hype by writing “GO ROMANS” in chalk.
Next, Lower School Romans and their buddies walked to the park and ran through a tunnel of high schoolers sharing enthusiastic high fives. The whole school danced to an energetic playlist curated by DJ Swerve.
Senior Prefect Asher Schenk delivered his speech while balancing on one foot after an injury in soccer the night before. In true Roman fashion, it didn’t stop him.
Asher said, “This year, let’s commit to having an open mind. Let’s welcome dialogues that challenge our views. Let’s seek out opportunities to have our beliefs shattered. Before we enter the real world, we have this safe space called Latin to learn from each other.”
This year’s themes of mindfulness, excellence, community, and integrity were celebrated as the morning ended with a rousing rendition of the Latin fight song. LET’S GO ROMANS!
