Latin Basketball Update

Cameron Cozzi At Latin many sports are offered each season. During the Winter students have the option to join the basketball, ice hockey, swimming, or squash team.  With big wins for the boys’ and girls’ basketball teams in last Friday’s Depaul games, we thought that it would be appropriate to give an update on how the season has been going so far for both the boy’s basketball teams and the girl’s basketball teams.         Led by Captains Jane Agler (Sr.) and Alexis Stevenson (Sr.), the varsity girls’ basketball team has had an impressive season so far. With 4 wins and only 1 loss in league games and 9 wins and 6 losses in non-league games, the team has a great record going into the second half of their season. Recently, both Captain Alexis Stevenson (Sr.) and Jade Edwards (Soph.) were named to the Lisle Holiday Tournament’s All-Tournament team. Jane Aglar described the season by saying,  “It has been a really great experience for all of us. Regardless of the ups and downs, we have learned mental toughness and resiliency, as well as how to develop a close team bond. This season has been one to remember.” The Varsity girls’ team was happy to pull off a blowout of Saint Benedict High school in the two teams’ first face-off of the season at DePaul last Friday. The JV Girls basketball team has also had a great season so far with 2 wins and 4 losses so far in league games.        In boys basketball, both the JV and freshman boys teams sport an impressive record so far. The JV team has had 6 wins and 4 losses in league games and 2 wins and 2 losses in non-league games, and the Freshman team has had 7 wins and 2 losses in league games and 1 win and 2 losses in non-league games. Furthermore, the varsity boys basketball team has also had a great first half of their season, their record being 4 wins and 4 losses in league games and 5 wins and 4 losses in non-league games. Led by Captains Danny DeGraff (Sr.), Truman Faversham (Sr.), and Andrew Wiggin (Sr.), the Varsity team has shown lots of improvement throughout the season. The varsity team has also gained two new faces this year, freshmen Ben Krambeck and Izz Hernandez. Both freshmen have displayed skills that rival those of many of the upperclassmen, and the duo ensures a promising future for the basketball program at Latin. With a tough loss to Parker in December, it was great to see the team bounce back with a win at Depaul!   We hope that everyone, whether you went to the Depaul games or didn’t, comes out to support both the girls’ and boys’ basketball teams in the final stretch of their seasons. Go Romans!  ]]>
