After six jam-packed days of dancing, singing, and sightseeing, the West End On Demand Project Week made its way back home on March 14. For the fourth year of this trip, 16 Latin students went to London to explore the heart of the city built on theater.

Between intensive workshops with West End professionals, tours of famous theaters, sips of tea, and daily musical viewings, the West End students, including me, became enthralled with the art of musical theater and the city of London.

“My favorite part of every night was getting to go to the amazing musicals like ‘Mamma Mia’ and ‘Back To The Future,’” senior Taylor Mitchell said. “It was so cool that we got to meet the people in the plays and learn the dances, and then see it performed on stage. I also loved getting the opportunity to walk around London and see the famous sights.”

In addition to exploring a city outside of Chicago, watching the musicals at night allowed students to

watch the professionals they met in the workshops and explore a new interest they may not experience at home. Students came home prepared to sing all the lyrics to “Matilda,” ready to dance in “Back To The Future,” and most importantly, obsessed with “Mama Mia.”

“The trip was really fun, and I really enjoyed the new experience that I have never been a part of before,” senior Thomas McLaughlin said.
