Varsity Girls Volleyball Wrap-Up

Mehr Singh Co-Editor-in-Chief This season, Latin’s girls varsity volleyball team made history in many ways. They started out the year winning the Bremman tournament for the first time in Latin history. The win lead the team to end the season with 17 wins overall and 6 losses, 8 wins in their league (undefeated), and 9 wins outside of their league. Great statistics, however, are not all the team accomplished. Senior (and co-captain) Grace Brandt explains some volleyball “drama” this season with the homecoming game saying, “our coach had to beg Resurrection to play us for our homecoming game because we haven’t beaten them in over twenty-five years.” That begging paid off. The team won the match and broke a twenty-five year losing streak by winning their match in two games. With the excitement of their win, the team headed out to St. Louis for their annual trip. Senior (and co-captain) Maggie Nemoy says, “the team went to play in a tournament at MICDS. We played very well, but most importantly we had so much fun together.” The girls had a bit too much fun, as the coaches soon realized. After returning to their hotel, having played 3 matches, the girls were out on the balconies in their rooms yelling to each other. Maggie explains, “We got a text from our coach that said ‘Hey ladies no more hanging out the windows tonight… Thanks and thanks.’ We could not stop laughing the entire night.” The great bonding experience brought the team closer and made them more determined to end on a great note. The team won ISL and Regionals, and then went on to play Sectionals. In an intense match against Guerin Prep, the team unfortunately lost in the third game with a score of 23-25. Junior Chloe Stiffle explains, “it was heartbreaking, but all the girls were incredible and gave it their all.” Overall, the team had a great season are looking forward to breaking even more records next year.]]>
