At Latin there are numerous ways to express yourself and your passions throughout the school; one that stands out to me is Ecco magazine. It is an outlet for art and writing of all styles and genres that form a book, or recently blog, encompassing the artistic voice of Latin other than the select images we see spotted on walls in the hallways. While many clubs and magazines such as the Forum or Vidi share these similar values, Ecco provides an open invitation for all forms of art rather than strictly writing or photography. The new addition to the blog is a way for students to see a live stream of their classmates work and be able to appreciate it outside of the printed version created once a year. According to Will Nuelle, “The book is only so big but there are so many amazing submissions we had to put them somewhere.” The idea of the blog is to create a clean and polished website that simply draws attention to the art without the distractions of liking and commenting. The ability to ‘like’ something creates a competition-based atmosphere, which ruins the idea of a place to share your work without fear of judgment or lack-there of. Alex Kaplan describes it as, “Minimalistic and modern.” The ultimate goal is to share and admire the amazing talents from many students in this school and give them the ability to be seen by our community.
