Juniors participated in College Day last Monday—a half-day program put on by the College Counseling Office to help students gain a deeper understanding of the college process.
To prepare for the event, students first read three fictional students’ college profiles. They then reviewed these profiles with various college representatives, ultimately choosing one to admit, one to deny, and one to waitlist.
On the morning of College Day, students and parents gathered in the theater to meet representatives from 14 different colleges. The parents then stayed in the theater for a panel of parents of recent Latin graduates while the students went to the Learning Commons for a similar panel with recent Latin graduates.
Following the panel, students broke into smaller groups to review the case study with a college representative. Students discussed the mock profiles—including grades, scores, essays, and supplements—and conducted two rounds of voting to determine the ultimate fate of the applicants.
After each group voted, everyone regrouped and attended one last panel with the college representatives.
College Counselor Devon Jones said, “Everyone seemed excited and really engaged, so [College Day has] seemed good from my perspective.”
