When Latin eighth grader Madison Marshiano approached Director of Student Life Tim Cronister about her efforts to raise money for Ronald McDonald House, an organization for sick children in need, Mr. Cronister was thrilled.
Madison has been raising money in the Middle School since last year and approached Mr. Cronister to expand her efforts across the entirety of Latin. “We’ve had a tremendous amount of donations,” Mr. Cronister said, after putting bins in the Lower, Middle, and Upper Schools. Donors filled the bins with canned and packaged food.
Ronald McDonald Houses are placed near hospitals to support families whose kids are undergoing major treatments. They house and feed families so that they may spend time with their sick children during hospital stays.
Mr. Cronister worked with the Student Service Learning Board to organize the drive this week throughout the school. The drive is opportune upon the arrival of Thanksgiving and has been very successful thus far.
For the drive, Madison also organized an Amazon storefront so that Latin families can donate from home.
Mr. Cronister said, “I am going to try to take advantage of the online donations for other drives in the future because of Madison’s success.”
