Fall athletes, parents, and coaches gathered in the Field Gym last Tuesday to celebrate the successes and achievements of the season.
Upper School Athletic Director Katie Johnson opened the banquet with a celebratory speech, thanking everyone who made this season possible.
“We had a really successful fall sports season,” Coach Johnson said. “It was really fun to see all of our teams make it into the postseason, and we had a really successful postseason for the majority of our sports, which was really exciting. We had a lot to celebrate.”
She then introduced the varsity coaches, who one by one shared overviews and highlights from their sport’s season. They highlighted athletes who received awards such as All-League, All-Sectional, All-State, and ISL Player of the Year across various sports.
Virtually every varsity team made it far in their seasons. The varsity girls field hockey team reached the final four in the state for the first time in program history. The boys cross country team finished third in the state, and the girls cross country team finished fifth.
Varsity girls volleyball finished in the elite eight, and swimming finished fifth overall in Sectionals. Tennis had the highest doubles finish of any team so far in Class 2A, the highest level classification that tennis teams play in.
In boys golf, Jack Zeiger was a champion at the ISL conference and finished 13th in the state. The two varsity girls golf captains, juniors Gillian Herman and Caitlin Creevy, also qualified for Sectionals.
Varsity boys soccer finished second in the ISL and made it to the Regional finals. Sailing also had a successful season, winning two regattas.
The banquet concluded with each sport retiring to smaller rooms, where they had more in-depth celebrations of their seasons. All athletes received participation awards, varsity athletes received their letters, and a few outstanding athletes received individual awards such as Most Valuable, Most Improved, and the Sportsmanship award.
“I loved seeing my teammates getting the recognition they deserved and celebrating with my friends,” sophomore and junior varsity volleyball athlete Maddie Guelich said. “It was nice to see the community all celebrating each other’s achievements.”
