Several seniors visited the polls on election day to cast their first ever vote in the 2024 Presidential election.
In the spring of 2024, the We Will Vote Club registered 67 then-seniors (class of ‘24) and juniors (class of ‘25) to vote as long as they were 18 by November 5. There were 33 seniors in the class of 2025 eligible by age to vote in this election.
Senior and head of the We Will Vote Club, Carla McSweeney, one of the 33 eligible student voters, visited the polls six days early to cast her vote.
Even with the long wait lines, Carla expressed how incredible of an experience it was being able to cast her vote after all the time she spent researching candidates. “I had been looking forward to participating in the democratic process and being able to express my voice through my vote,” she said.
Many students felt both nervous and excited for their first chance to vote, including senior Abdon Valenciana, who chose to vote in person on election day.
“I was definitely a little nervous, because I think that everyone’s vote matters and that everyone should vote, so I was happy to take part of my first election,” Abdon said.
