Athlete of the Week and varsity soccer player senior Diego Delira brought home the victory against Parker during their homecoming weekend on their turf, scoring the only goal of the game.
“Scoring that goal against Parker [was my] favorite part of the season,” Diego said.
Soccer has been an integral part of Diego’s life for as long as he can remember. Prior to high school, Diego also played ice hockey; however, his ice hockey career came to a close during COVID, as the majority of accessible ice rinks were closed.
Once restrictions due to the COVID pandemic were lifted, Diego thought to himself, “I’m going into high school. I will stop playing hockey, and start taking soccer more seriously.” Diego noted it was at this point in his life he began playing travel soccer, which helped improve his soccer abilities and took his talents to the next level.
As for his future plans, Diego hopes to “continue playing club soccer or just play in random Sunday league teams.” Reflecting upon his commitment to maintaining his skills as a lifelong participant of the sport, Diego proudly notes, “I’ve always been a soccer player.”
