Meet junior Aidyn Jones: aspiring traveler, Handcut Foods chicken shawarma lover, and future sports medicine physician!
Lizzy Miller (LM): What extracurricular activity are you most involved in at Latin?
Aidyn Jones (AJ): The Student Service Learning Board. I feel like it’s probably my favorite extracurricular, too, because I love going to our meetings, planning drives, and stuff like that so we can help the Chicago community outside of Latin. I also did cross country this year, and that was really fun. I was never a person who liked running that much, but I appreciate it more than I did when I first started.
LM: What impact do you want to make on Latin using your involvement with SSLB?
AJ: I just want to get people more involved in service, and it is also a good way to connect with more people in Chicago, in general. It’s really fun for me personally. It makes my day when I see someone help someone else, so I just want more people to experience that.
LM: What has been your favorite class during high school so far?
AJ: I really love biology, it is probably my favorite class. I love that it’s applicable to you. It makes it a lot more interesting.
LM: What would you like to accomplish this school year?
AJ: I just hope to continue to get good grades and learn a lot. This year, I really like a lot of my classes, so I feel like I want to learn more about a lot of different subjects.
LM: Growing up, who did you look up to most?
AJ: Probably my mom. All moms make a lot of sacrifices for their kids, and she’s just a really kind and generous person.
LM: What do you want to be when you grow up?
AJ: I want to be a doctor; I want to go into sports medicine. I recently did a shadow day with the Blackhawks’ head team doctor, so I really want to do something with that and orthopedic medicine.
LM: What is at the top of your bucket list?
AJ: I want to do a whole tour of Europe someday. I would love to go to Italy and France, specifically. I also want to go bungee jumping, but that really, really scares me.
LM: What is your greatest skill in life?
AJ: I pride myself on being able to get along with an array of people. I try my best to be an inclusive and adaptable person. I can adjust to situations very well.
LM: What is your favorite lunch item?
AJ: I love the chicken shawarma!
