After a five-month hiatus, the upscale convenience store Foxtrot reopened its doors on September 19, welcoming customers back with its signature offerings, ranging from delicious coffee to local goodies.
The store’s sudden closure in mid-April followed an unsuccessful partnership with Dom’s Kitchen and Market. Foxtrot filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy, a legal process available to businesses that cannot pay off their loans and are severely in debt.
“Despite the setback, Foxtrot aims to re-emerge stronger, focusing on customer experience and unique offerings,” Foxtrot Worker #1 said. With backing from Further Point Enterprises, a New York-based investment firm, Foxtrot has begun reopening its Chicago locations, starting with the Gold Coast Foxtrot and the Old Town Foxtrot.
Foxtrot reopened with significant enhancements including a wider selection of food and drinks, a new environment that promotes a calmer, more productive atmosphere, and an increased staff presence to reduce customer wait times.
Junior Taylor Mitchell said, “Foxtrot is a great spot to venture with friends and get work done.”
The Forum asked several employees at Foxtrot how they would continue to attract customers after the store’s reopening. “Customers prefer smaller shops because it provides consumers with less anxiety,” Foxtrot Worker #1 said. “[Foxtrot] also serves less common items that you would find at a bigger grocery chain. [This] helps us attract groups of people looking for a new little treat to try for an affordable price.”
Foxtrot Worker #2 said, “Another reason people love Foxtrot is our expertly brewed coffee. Foxtrot offers 10 plus unique flavors year-round, not including seasonal specials, making it a favorite among coffee lovers.”
“Foxtrot’s diverse coffee flavors are why it’s my go-to coffee shop,” sophomore Naomi Herman said.
Currently, they are serving a Pumpkin Pie Latte topped with graham crackers and whipped cream, a seasonal drink that screams the essence of fall. Their seasonal fun lattes are just a fragment of the gourmet drinks they craft. They also serve various canned beverages such as Poppis and Kombucha.
Beyond freshly crafted drinks, Foxtrot offers a curated selection of freshly baked pastries, including decadent muffins and warm, buttery croissants. There are also healthier options, such as pre-made and gourmet salads sourced and made with locally based ingredients. Foxtrot’s return brings more than convenience back to the neighborhood; it restores a beloved spot for members of the Latin community.
Sophomore Josie Malkin said, “I am excited to have this spot back in our community where Latin students can bond and enjoy a sweet treat to elevate their day.”
