The varsity girls swim team pulled off a massive 109-59 win on Friday in their Homecoming meet against Trinity High School. Right out of the gate, the Roman swimmers prevailed in the 200-medley relay, winning by over five seconds and setting the tone for the 50-point blowout.
Latin’s success continued as the swimmers proceeded to swim themselves onto the podium in all 10 swimming events, placing first in all but two events. A highlight of the day was sophomore Greta Temple’s dominant performance in the 500 freestyle. She lapped her competition in a blistering time of five minutes and 54 seconds.
Senior co-captain Kate Weiskirch said, “The Homecoming meet is a great day for people to show up and enjoy some friendly competition.” The fans did not disappoint, as the Greg Baker Memorial Pool echoed with the cheers of Latin community members.
However, the win against Trinity High School had its challenges. Latin has had to persevere through multiple injuries and illnesses in the days leading up to the meet. In spite of setbacks, senior and co-captain Isabella Carney said she has “been able to carry on a legacy of kindness that previous swim captains have shown” her.
