Junior Jack Zeiger has been on fire this season, winning the past two golf tournaments and scoring in every regular season match. For years Zeiger held a fierce rivalry with Chicago Lab School’s Daniel Chang, who defeated him last year.
“Last year Daniel beat me and that really motivated me all offseason,” Jack said.
This year’s Independent School League (ISL) Championship was held at the infamous Harborside International Golf Center: Port Course, one of the toughest in the city. The heavy rain, lack of sun, and tornado warnings made the course exceptionally hard this year. “By the eighth hole, my clubs were completely soaking wet. At one point one of my clubs fell out of my hands,” senior and member of varsity girls golf Juliette Katz said. But the harsh conditions did not stop the team.
Despite the conditions, the girls team ended up finishing third overall and the boys tied for fourth. Zeiger brought everything he had, shooting an astonishing 71, one under par. He blew the competition out of the water, finishing two strokes ahead of second place and five strokes ahead of Chang. Zeiger’s dedication to bettering his craft was evident as he beat his previous score at ISLs by five strokes.
“I’m glad that the work paid off,” Jack said.
