The crack of the ball against the stick reverberated across the field as the players entered their rhythm of swift dodges, soft dribbles, and strong passes sent wide to teammates. The varsity girls field hockey team worked together, keeping the ball in their control as they defeated the North Shore Country Day Raiders on Tuesday with a 5-0 victory.
Gaining an early edge in the first quarter, the girls made effective passes that led to their first goal, from sophomore Lilah Small. The team’s strong defense allowed them to maintain their lead throughout the second quarter. As the game progressed, the Romans stayed consistent and scored four more goals, one by junior Raffa Koloskov and three by freshman starter Fini Mendoza Pena.
With many fans cheering on the sidelines, the Romans could feel an electrifying school spirit for the first home game this year, motivating them to strive for greatness and ultimately secure another win.
The Romans’ hard work and collaboration made the game one to watch.
“The game was so fun and exhilarating,” Lilah said.
