Latin seniors celebrated their college matriculation by sporting t-shirts, ballcaps, and flags of their future universities on May 1. While Latin doesn’t officially endorse a “Decision Day,” Latin students took it among themselves to celebrate their accomplishments.
Beginning at 7:30 a.m., seniors and their families gathered outside of the Upper School and took colorful photos in their college shirts with Dearborn Street and North Avenue in the background.
Senior Noa Paige Bremen said, “I think it’s fun for people to have pride in where they’re going, but I also think it can be stressful if you don’t know yet, or if you’re still deciding, or your options aren’t what you hoped they’d be.”
But a handful of seniors didn’t know where they’re going to college yet for various reasons: They’re still weighing their options, they’re taking a gap year, or the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) hasn’t released all of their financial aid packages yet, so some seniors wore a plain outfit instead of college merchandise.
“I thought it was a lot of fun,” senior Elsie Cohen said. “There was definitely stress surrounding it as we were waiting on people to get last minute decisions, but I loved rooting for everyone [and] seeing that people are going to places that are perfect for them.”
