For the first time in history, Latin Girls Varsity Hockey won the Scholastic Cup Championship, bringing the team one game closer to the State Championship at the United Center. On Friday, the team defeated Upper Fox Valley at Lake Forest College with a final score was 4-2. At the end of the first period, both teams were tied 1-1. The Romans pulled ahead after the second period, making the score 2-1, then 3-1 at the end of the third, and finally winning the game 4-2. Senior Lindley McCutcheon says that the win “truly felt like a whole team win because everyone wanted to be there and everyone wanted it just as badly as everyone else.” She adds that since it was senior Abby Maechling’s birthday, there was increased enthusiasm because “the team was so hyped to make it a great night for her and everyone else who came out.” The team only needs two more wins to make it to the State Championship.
