Latin American Student Organization (LASO) co-heads presented alongside Head of School Thomas Hagerman at Gathering last Thursday about the ongoing ICE raids in Chicago.

Senior Sydney Dibble and junior Sofie Munive shared resources from LASO, spreading awareness for targeted communities in Chicago, especially in neighborhoods like Pilsen and Little Village. “This is about people being unjustly harmed, unjustly detained,” Sofie said.

They emphasized that their presentation was “solely to inform, not to start anything based on political agenda,” Sydney said. In addition to addressing the effects on the general Chicago population, they focused on the raids’ impact for the Latin community.

Dr. Hagerman’s presentation reaffirmed Latin’s commitment to protecting student safety, providing resources for students to learn about their rights and responsibilities if approached by ICE agents. He encouraged students to treat school as a safe place, detailing Latin’s efforts, beginning in February 2025 and continuing through the present, to help community members affected by ICE and spread awareness schoolwide.
