This week, freshman Phoebe Partridge discusses the new clubs and increased freedom of the Upper School.

Are you new to Latin this year, or were you here in middle school?

SG
PP

No, this is my first year. I went to British previously.

What has that transition been like?

SG
PP

It’s been nice, but it’s also kind of hard, just because we learned things very differently.

What’s the biggest difference between British and here?

SG
PP

Probably just the amount of freedom. Because we have frees, and British doesn’t do frees—I’ve never had a chance where I can just do whatever I want.

What’s one Latin tradition you wish British had?

SG
PP

Definitely just being able to shadow someone, because we didn’t get to shadow anyone. So I was very oblivious, even if I did stay at British, what I was going into. But I kind of knew what I was going into here.

What was your shadow day experience like?

SG
PP

I shadowed a sophomore, so I really enjoyed it because I got to do MESA [English 10: Middle Eastern & South Asian Lit.]. So that was fun, just to see different classes, because I think sophomore year you get way more electives and choice in your subjects.

What class are you most excited for next year?

SG
PP

I heard to take Nazi Mind, so I really want to take that.

What has been your favorite thing you’ve gotten involved with at Latin?

SG
PP

Probably Model Congress or The Forum, because I did run for grade rep, but I lost. But it’s okay. I’ve definitely liked the clubs.

How did you decide which clubs to join?

SG
PP

I did journalism in the student newspaper at middle school. So I was like, “I just want to apply my skills here,” because I love writing.

What’s your favorite article you’ve ever written?

SG
PP

It was probably the one I did based on how late we should start school because the 8:30 start—it was controversial.

What’s your biggest goal for the rest of the year?

SG
PP

Get straight A’s or just really good grades, because I feel like it’s a bit hard to get good grades. You have to really try.

What’s a show that everyone reading The Forum should watch?

SG
PP

I love “Gossip Girl” so much.

Who’s your favorite character?

SG
PP

Blair. I love Blair.

Why?

SG
PP

In season one, she’s kind of insane. But after that, she’s just way more relatable, and I kind of just understand her. And I feel like her and Serena, everyone says they have such a good friendship. I can kind of see why it’s toxic, though.

If you got to be there for one “Gossip Girl” episode, which episode, and why?

SG
PP

The Thanksgiving episode in Season Five, I think. It’s the one where they’re all sitting at the table and then they all leave.
