What is one skill that you wish you had?

I need to learn how to prioritize, like what I need to do. Because, especially when I do my work, I’m like, ‘This is due and this is also due, but I really care about this,’ and I just sit there for like 15 minutes wondering what I should do. And it’s not the best use of my time.

What’s been the most rewarding part of freshman year?

SG
VW

The communities are really nice, especially all the teachers and all the new people mostly are really nice. So I think it’s really nice to have such a good community.

What’s been one class that’s been surprising?

SG
VW

Global Studies Visual Arts. I wasn’t expecting to build a whole mask, because we really recently made the animal head projects. When my mom first saw that, she was like, ‘Oh, my gosh, there’s heads everywhere.’ And I’m like, ‘Oh, those are probably for the seniors because they looked so complicated. And I didn’t know that you would actually be able to make them in freshman year.

What is the biggest advice you would have given to yourself at orientation?

SG
VW

You can’t do 100% in everything. Because in middle school, it was really easy to do absolutely everything you could, because there wasn’t that much work. And then freshman year, you have to lower your standard just a little bit because you have so much work and you have to sleep and be a human. So in that sense, don’t put 100%. Like, if you can get an A doing 80%, do 80%.

What do you think is your favorite thing you do outside of Latin?

SG
VW

Well, I really like field hockey, and that’s been going really well.

When did you start playing?

SG
VW

I started playing right before COVID, so maybe third or fourth grade?

What’s your favorite thing about field hockey?

SG
VW

I think again, the community, and I also think especially, all the coaches I’ve had are really, really nice and are really, really helpful. And it gives you experience in how to receive feedback and then implement that immediately into what you’re doing, which I think is really good.

If you had to eat one ice cream flavor for the rest of your life, what would it be?

SG
VW

Probably red bean. It’s so good. I highly recommend it.
