Varsity swimmer and sophomore Greta Temple shined at the ISL championship, leading her team to a great victory and beating her own personal records. Individually, she placed second in the 100-yard butterfly, dominated the 500-yard freestyle, and set a season record in the 4 x 400 freestyle relay. She also led the 4 x 200 free relay to second place with a 28.86 second split.
“Swimming is a space where I can just think by myself because no one is distracting me,” Greta said. “It’s just a calm environment at the end of the day.”
Throughout her swimming career, her passion for swimming has grown stronger.
“I’ve been swimming for a long time, but I think that I actually started to enjoy it when I was in seventh or eighth grade because I had a lot of friends there, so it became much more enjoyable,” Greta said.
Greta’s favorite meet this season was the ISL championship meet on Oct. 26 at University of Illinois Chicago, where she broke her personal records and led her team to victory.
“The points were very close between us, and it all came down to the last relay, which was very exciting,” Greta said. “Everyone did very well because it was a championship-style meet.”
Her success at ISLs allowed her to enter the Sectional meet in a strong position. Latin finished fifth out of 13 schools at that meet.
Greta continues to have strong aspirations for her future in swimming.
She said, “I just want to stick with swimming and continue to get faster, and hopefully, place higher every year against the same people I have been swimming against.”
