You may know senior Finn Deeney as Lord Farquaad in “Shrek The Musical,” Mortimer Mortimer in “Failure: A Love Story,” or the White Rabbit in “Alice in Wonderland.” Now it’s time to meet Finn backstage.
Lizzy Miller (LM): What extracurricular activity are you most involved in?
Finn Deeney (FD): It’s split between theater and a cappella. I have done every play here since my freshman year, and I have been a co-head of the Latones for two years now. Latones in the morning, and theater at nighttime.
LM: What is your favorite part of theater at Latin?
FD: My favorite part is the community, because we have such a deep connection to each other and such a bond. We spend hours together every night for months on end. Everyone is so willing to bring each other up and support each other.
LM: What is your favorite memory from your time doing theater at Latin?
FD: My first wig fitting for Lord Farquaad. It was this really interesting, sleek, black bob. I had never worn a wig before, and so getting the pins and everything in my hair was really interesting. It was really fun because everyone loved the bob, and just knowing that I had so many friends that were sort of laughing with me rather than at me while doing something sort of silly.
LM: What would you like to accomplish before the end of your senior year?
FD: I am directing a student-run play alongside my friend Maddy Levy. We are trying to do a play called “The Perfumery.” It is an old play, and it is a really cute romance. It is what the hit movie “You’ve Got Mail” is based on. I also want to do a senior project. I’m really excited to see what it’s like to direct a group, especially alongside one of my closest friends.
LM: Fun fact?
FD: I can vibrate the pupils in my eyes. I thought that everyone could do it until freshman year.
LM: What do you want to be when you grow up?
FD: When I grow up I want to be a playwright. I want to be able to write musicals. It has been my dream for a few years, and I never really thought that that would be possible until I found out that people do that for college and for careers.
LM: If you could have a roundtable conversation with three celebrities, who would they be?
FD: This is a tough decision. Patti LuPone, Lorde, and Kristin Chenoweth.
LM: Favorite kiosk pastry?
FD: The chocolate bundt cakes are so good. They don’t have them anymore, but the cheddar jalapeno bagels. It was so sad when they took those away. They were amazing.
